Be adventures and take the forgotten routs to and around Mývatn with us.
We will take you for an exciting off road journey where we will follow some nearly forgotten and unused trails around the Mývatn area. During our trip you will get to experience rough Off-Roading, stunning mountain views, volcanoes and waterfalls. We will take you to some of Mývatn's more known attractions such as, Dimmuborgir, Grjótagjá and Hverir.
Our first stop will be at the magnificent waterfall Goðafoss, from there we head to Mývatn. At Mývatn we will start by driving past Skútustaðagígar, a cluster of very unique volcanic land formations (pseudo crater) which got formed during a eruption in the area. This type of land formations have only been found in four places on the planet and then a few on the planet Mars.
Next we stop at the well known attraction Dimmuborgir. Dimmuborgir (Dark castle) is a unusually dark and rough lava field which contains many volcanic caves and strange lava formations such as “The Church”. After a refreshing stop there we will go off-road and make our way through the deep snow towards the volcanoes Hverfjall and Lúdent to which we will drive to the top of (if possible). From here we will take a secret passage to Hverir following a long forgotten trail along the rough lava field.
Hverir has countless of hot mud springs and steam vents in widely different colors which marvels all which explore the area. From there we go over Námaskarð and to Grjótagjá the old nature baths at Mývan.
Grjótagjá is a small lava cave near lake Mývatn with a thermal spring inside which was used as a bathing place for centuries until the last eruptions at Mývatn when the water temperature rose to about 50°C.
After all of this we will head back towards Akureyri.
This will be a trip to remember.
